The snow continues to pile up at Mustang Lodge in the northern Monashees. As of Thursday, Nov. 26th, there was 235 cm. at their snow-stake at the ski lodge (that is the base of their terrain...imagine what the top is!), with lots more in the forecast for the upcoming week. Jeff, their snow road builder, is flat-out busy putting in the snow road system. Things are a little slow going since every time he leaves the snowcat and goes up to his waist in powder, he wishes he was on skis, not in a machine.
Saturday the 28th of November will be their first cat skiing day with the Association of Canadian mountain guides running their Assistant guide course. There will be lots of excitement that week – with Mustang's own guides doing their practice sessions and the lodge staff getting geared-up. Also, it will be really exciting to ski in the new zone which Mustang Powder and Eagle Pass Heli Skiing share – the elusive Norm’s No-zone. Check out photo section of the Mustang Website to see what it looks like.
If you were waiting and watching and thinking about going cat skiing/boarding in early December...hesitate no longer – their first ski holiday is Dec. 4th -6th and there are only a few seats left. From Dec. 7-11 there are more spots available, but then they are fully booked for the following 9 days. The word is out people. Book now to capitalize on this early season catskiing pow! Cat skiing rates are low in December, but quality most definitely is not.”
